So … was it the hands-free law, or the DWB law, that got Steve Smith caught up?

It’s hard to tell – but Smith, the much-beloved former Panther and brand-new Raven, had a national radio interview interrupted on Thursday with a line that isn’t heard on national radio often:

“Oh. See, you guys got me in trouble. I’m getting pulled over by the police.”

Here is the interview, on ESPN’s “Dan LeBatard Show,” with LeBatard and co-host Bomani Jones, who offers a subtly-coded opinion on why Smith drew the police’s attention – with Smith giving it credence by saying, “Hey, a brother driving a nice car.”

It’s not clear where Smith was driving, or whether he in fact was not talking hands-free on the phone, but in fairness, doing that is illegal in a lot of states.

The local peace officers make their appearance at the 1:25 mark, and Smith rejoins the show at 4:30.
