We love the fact that Mary J. Blige, a nine-time Grammy Award winner, will sing the national anthem on Wednesday prior to game 1 of the World Series game between St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox.
We just hope the fans at Fenway Park in Boston don’t shower her with hateration.
Blige singing the anthem is an interesting pick for several reasons:
- Blige is a New Yorker, a wore a New York Yankees jacket when sang the anthem prior to game six of the 2009 World Series in New York between the Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies–the first baseball game she ever attended.
- As widely reported during the ALCS, some Fenway Fans don’t exactly welcome minorities with open arms, as a man claimed he was subjected to racial harassment with no intervention by security.
