Our candidate for college football hit of the year actually happened nearly two weeks ago.
But it’s new to us.
The situation: the Oct. 5 game between the nation’s top-ranked Division III team Mount Union and Ohio Northern.
Just as the football hits Ohio Northern receiver Matt Craven’s fingertips, he gets annihilated by Mount Union’s Joshua Scott. The hit was so hard that Craven’s helmet and mouthpiece got launched into orbit.
Much respect to Craven, who managed to hang onto the ball. Scott, despite what looks to be a legal hit, was called for a penalty.
Oh, yeah: Mount Union won the game, 55-7.
