In j0urnalism we call it burying the lead — the fact that you have to get all the way to the end of this highlights video to see the most important element of what happened yesterday at the FIBA sponsored World 3X3 championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The USA men were eliminated by Lithuania in the round of 16, after winning their first seven games.

In this care it was the USA men’s U18 team made up of Cliff Alexander (Curie H.S./Chicago—University of Tennessee commit), Larry Austin, Jr. (Lanphier H.S., Springfield, Ill.), Domonique Collier (Denver East H.S.—University of Colorado commit), and DeMonte Flannigan (Ville Angela-St. Joseph H.S./Cleveland—Cleveland State commit).

Remember: it was a group of high school kids. No real need for panic.

The USA women’s U18 was also beaten yesterday by Lithuania. But since that loss came during preliminary round play, the women are still alive for the title in the tournament that ends today.

Earlier this year there was talk of the Olympic committee adding 3-on-3 basketball as an Olympic sport for the 2013 games in Brazil, but that failed to happen when the announcements were made in August.
