Did the Ravens’ Ray Rice spit at Browns’ nose tackle Phil Taylor?

We were watching Sunday’s game between Baltimore and Cleveland, and were wondering about that first quarter scuffle that saw Ravens running back Ray Rice get into it with Browns nose tackle Phil Taylor.

Ray rice copyAnd we wondered: why would a big man like Taylor want to smack such a tiny guy—especially so early in a game?

The situation: Rice was tackled, and as the players got up he was jawing with Taylor. Taylor smacked Rice in the head, and was given a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Asked by reporters after the game what happened, Taylor said:

“Look at the film, you will see…I’m not going to say. It is what it is. I need to keep my composure.”

Meanwhile Rice had a poor game rushing for 36 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a hip injury. And while the Ravens won the game, Rice received so much criticism on social media that he tweeted the following:
