So let’s get this straight: Miami Heat star LeBron James, who is from Akron, OH, has just signed on to executive produce a sitcom about two guys who are from… Philadelphia?
That’s the news this week as James, who apparently has some free time on his hands even after winning two championship rings, will join a production group that includes friend Maverick Carter and Boston Red Sox chairman/TV producer Tom Werner.
The show will follow two men from the Philadelphia ghetto who, after succeeding in life, have feelings of guilt.
James is business partners with Werner, as part of the Fenway Sports Group. Here’s what James had to say, via the New York Daily News:
“I have a deep passion for the amazing television being created right now. I love ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Magic City,’ ‘Scandal’ and ’24.’
“When my business partners Tom Werner and Maverick Carter brought up the idea of creating a television series that would capture the story of what happens when you make it out, I jumped at the chance.
“Nobody can craft a story like Tom Werner. He has an incredible vision for television and I’m really excited to partner with him and the rest of our team.”
