Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward takes fastball hit to the jaw

Atlanta Braves outfield Jason Heyward stepped to the plate in the sixth inning of yesterday’s game in New York and was hit by 90-mph fastball thrown by Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese.

The sound of the ball hitting his face is sickening — it was so loud that the announcer thought the ball hit Heyward’s helmet. Heyward stayed on the ground for three minutes before he sat up and was, eventually, assisted from the field.

His jaw was broken in two places, and he’s likely out four to six weeks.
