Tears of a clown: Meghan Rutledge, and why you don’t celebrate early in a motorbike race

This week’s version of premature ejokulation: In the midst of her final jump in her final lap of a Moto-X race where she seemed destined for gold, Meghan Rutledge decided to celebrate with a fist pump with her right hand.

That’s OK if you’re Tiger Woods and you have just drilled a big-time putt.

Not OK if you’re trying to maintain balance on a motorcycle 30 feet in the air — especially when that celebratory right hand should be on the throttle.

The bike: It came crashing down.

The gold medal: It went to American Vicki Golden (Rutledge, from Australia, finished seccond).

The lesson: in the words of Lenny Kravitz, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”
