That has to be Robert Gill, the rookie receiver with the Arizona Cardinals who was clocked on the treadmill at 25 MPH in the above YouTube video.
With speed like that, you’re probably wondering why you’ve never heard of this guy? That’s because Gill has played the past five seasons on arena football teams everywhere from Milwaukee to Lubbock.
Football was never his sport. Gill played one year of football in high school and went to college with a desire to play basketball. With his speed he was eventually steered to track, and by his senior year at Texas State he was one of the nation’s top 400 meter runners.
His ability to run the 40 in 4.2 got the attention of the Cardinals, who invited him to minicamp in April. After the first day he was offered a three-year contract.
If Gill makes the roster he will be — at 29 — the oldest rookie in the NFL.
