Did you really think that Kevin Durant traveled all the way to Minnesota back in May to see someone who was “just a friend” play basketball?
All the rumors that circulated then when Durant sat court side to see that “friend” Monica Wright and the Minnesota Lynx play became fact when a reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune got confirmation after a Lynx game that the two got engaged over the weekend.
The two met in 2006 at a high school All-American all-star game and have remained friends. Durant is a three-time scoring champion with the Oklahoma City Thunder. And Wright—who shares the name of the character played by Sanaa Lathan in the 2000 movie Love & Basketball—is a guard on the Lynx, who won the 2011 WNBA title.
Durant even joked about having a basketball playing girlfriend in this 2011 tweet:
Congratulations to the talented couple.
And, breaking news: Coach John Calipari—who is always on top of his recruiting game—just offered the yet-to-be-conceived child a scholarship.
